PERSONALITY: Newel isn’t type of guy to split hares about much of anything. He’s blunt, grouchy, obnoxious, direct, and his dripping sarcasm often leads him into a lot of personality clashes. He dislikes Matt intensely, and takes personal delight in antagonizing him every chance he gets. But underneath it all, he cares very deeply about his job and the royals, and he has a lot of horse sense.

HISTORY: Newel is an Esquilax, a hybrid creature with the body of a horse, and the head of a rabbit, though he’s frequently mistaken for a mutant llama. His past is unknown as of yet, but Newel is Shira's personal assistant and occasional mount, and accompanies her on her long journeys around the country.

MAGIC/SPECIAL ABILITIES: Newel can appraise the value of just about anything just by looking at it, and his magical talent is to be able to speak any animal language.

TRIVIA: Newel is the only Esquiliax in probably the world that can think and speak. Esquilax are livestock for the most part, so people don’t expect Newel to be able to talk and have human sentience. Something that he both hates but also doesn't feel the need to correct most of the time. Newel wasn't born able to talk. He was the experiment of a mad magician who was trying to create cheap retail service that people wouldn't have to pay, which is why he has the abilities he does.
Newel feels kind of a brotherly connection towards Shira. He cares very deeply about her and secretly worries about her.
Newel hates Matt mostly because they are so much alike in many ways.
